Pre-Institute Work
1. Inventory of Entering Student Experiences
- This is an intake process that involves an online questionnaire about your college’s practices related to entering student engagement and success.
- Due Thursday, March 1, 2012
- Each team member must complete this questionnaire online.
- Optional: Ask up to five additional colleagues at your college to complete the questionnaire.
- Results for each college will be compiled and sent to Team Facilitators in March.
2. Basic Data Review
- This is a structured examination and compilation of institutional data on entering student progress and success (e.g., course completion and fall-to-fall retention rates, etc.).
- Due Thursday, March 1, 2012
- Submit to oriano@cccse.org
- Work with your institutional researchers to complete this assignment.
- Use the template as a starting point.
3. Short-Term Action Plan (Part I-a ONLY)
- This is a structured review of college results from the Survey of Entering Student Engagement (SENSE).
- Due Friday, March 23, 2012
- Submit to oriano@cccse.org
- Use your college's most recent results from the Survey of Entering Student Engagement (SENSE). For teams whose colleges participated in SENSE 2011, please wait until the results are released (by March 1, 2012) to complete this assignment.

Team Price
Your team price includes:
- Entering Student Success Institute registration fees
- 2 nights (April 1 and April 2) in individual rooms at the Eldorado for each participant (reservations made via rooming list based on registration; please send e-mail to info@cccse.org if you are interested in staying additional nights)
- 2 breakfasts, 1 lunch, and 1 reception for each participant
- Data Facilitators to answer SENSE questions
- Expert assistance from ESSI Resident Faculty
- Strategy and action-planning sessions
Note: Invoices are sent to college presidents. Full registration payment is due by the date stated on the invoice.
Cancellation Policy
Because ESSI is an invitation-only event, with a stringent limit on the number of participating colleges that can be accommodated, the following payment and cancellation policy has been established.
Cancellation notice in writing, received at the Center:
Before October 31: 80% refund, or 20% due
November 1 - 30: 75% refund, or 25% due
December 1 - January 15: 50% refund, or 50% due
After January 15: no refund available, or full payment due
