The Center for Community College Student Engagement will host a special-focus workshop for small and rural Texas colleges October 12 & 13, 2016, at the Omni Austin Hotel at Southpark in Austin, Texas, as a key piece of the Texas Small and Rural Colleges Working Together Project.

Work on this project centers around the 15 colleges that administer Center surveys as the Texas Small Colleges Consortium.

Overview

At the workshop, colleges will analyze collected data to understand student progress, identify gaps in achievement among student populations, identify a student engagement benchmark for further review, and create an action item to implement during spring 2017 to strengthen that benchmark.

Setting the Stage: CCSSE Data & Pathways

Cynthia Ferrell, Executive Director of the Texas Success Center, a part of the Texas Association of Community Colleges, will present an engaging after-dinner plenary session about the importance of building capacity to make data-driven decisions and creating a culture of evidence in Texas colleges.


 

Logistics

Generous funding from the Greater Texas Foundation will cover on-site expenses for each participant, including:

  • Workshop registration
  • One-night stay at the Omni Austin Hotel at Southpark (night of October 12)
  • Meeting materials
  • Meals (Welcome Reception, Dinner, Breakfast, and Lunch)

The college is responsible for arranging and covering other travel expenses for participants.

Hotel Reservations

Reservations will be arranged by the Center based on workshop registration. There is no action needed from registered participants to secure hotel rooms.

Please keep in mind that the hotel will require a major credit card from each guest upon check-in. Individual participants are responsible for any incidental costs, as well as for lodging on additional nights.

Transportation Tips

For the convenience of teams flying into Austin, the hotel is located within close proximity to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Please view the Travel & Transportation Tips document for additional information about getting around Austin.

 

Registration

Participating colleges are invited to send a team of up to five (minimum of three) people to the workshop.

The recommended composition for teams follows:

  • President or CEO
  • Chief academic officer
  • Chief student services officer
  • Lead institutional research officer
  • Faculty leader

During registration, one person from each college team should be designated as the Team Facilitator. This person will serve as the primary point of contact between the college and Center staff.
