Overview

This 2 ½-day intensive, hands-on learning event for community college and university teams is part of a special Center initiative, Engaging Latino Students for Transfer and College Completion, funded by The Kresge Foundation and the Greater Texas Foundation. The overarching purpose of the Institute is to help participating institutions strengthen Latino student engagement, collaboration around the transfer process, and college completion of Latino/a students. Teams will interact with colleagues from the Center, NSSE, and Excelencia; nationally-recognized speakers; and resident faculty. This focus will result in the development of a short-term action plan to support these institutions’ continuing work toward accomplishment of a data-informed and evidence-based student success agenda.

Logistics

The initiative will cover various onsite expenses for each participant, including Institute registration, a two-night stay at the hotel, meeting materials, and some meals. The respective institution is responsible for arranging travel and covering travel expenses for each participant.

Hotel reservations for September 11 and 12 will be arranged by the Center via a rooming list for those who are registered. Confirmation numbers will be provided to each guest in early August 2014.

There is no action needed from registered participants to secure hotel rooms for those two nights.

However, for participants who wish to extend their stay, the Hyatt Regency San Antonio has set up a Passkey link (below) where reservations may be made for additional nights. The hotel is offering our participants a discounted conference rate of $179 for the nights of September 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, and 15—based on availability.

The hotel will keep this page active as long as there is availability (be sure to follow the posted instructions):

Please keep in mind that although the Center is taking care of everyone’s room nights on September 11 and 12, the hotel will still require a major credit card from each guest upon check-in. Individual participants are responsible for any incidental costs, as well as for lodging on additional nights.

If you have questions regarding the hotel, please contact Zach Garcia at garcia@cccse.org or 512-232-6458.

Please also see our transportation tips while making preparations for the Institute.
