Community College Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (CCFSSE)
Developed in response to demand from the community college field, the Community College Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (CCFSSE) elicits information from faculty about their perceptions regarding students' educational experiences, their teaching practices, and the ways they spend their professional time—both in and out of the classroom.
Offered as a companion to the CCSSE student survey, CCFSSE is an online census survey that invites all faculty at participating colleges to contribute their front-line perspectives on student engagement. With a flat-rate fee regardless of college size, CCFSSE is an affordable way to create a faculty data set for comparison with student data. Perhaps more importantly, CCFSSE provides colleges with an effective way to invite faculty into a college-wide conversation about student engagement and success while spurring interest in their CCSSE survey results.

CCFSSE registration open until participating college submits course master data file.
Fee: $925/college. When reports are requested for multiple campuses, the fee is $925/campus.
Note: Participation in the faculty survey is limited to colleges that participate in the student survey as well, and the fees listed
Requirements: Faculty members will be invited to participate in the online survey via an e-mail invitation sent by the CCSSE staff; therefore, participating colleges must be able to provide accurate e-mail addresses for all faculty (both part- and full-time) who are teaching in the spring semester.
Faculty e-mail addresses should be provided to CCSSE as part of the college's course master data file. All faculty teaching credit courses that don’t fall under the CCSSE exclusionary guidelines will be invited to participate in the CCFSSE. If faculty members teach more than one course, CCSSE’s sampling process randomly selects one course for them to base their CCFSSE responses upon. It could be a course selected for CCSSE administration, or it could be a course that is not part of the CCSSE sample.
The college contact is responsible for contacting his or her technology support staff if it becomes evident that firewalls or spam-blocking software are interfering with CCSSE's ability to contact faculty members via e-mail. Upon elimination of the problem, it is the college's responsibility to request that the CCSSE staff resend participation invitations.
Administration Tips
Recommended tips for a smooth CCFSSE administration:
- Use the template letter that CCSSE provides to inform faculty members of the upcoming CCFSSE administration.
- Verify faculty e-mail addresses by sending out a test message before submitting the college's course master data file.
- After CCSSE sends e-mail invitations to faculty members, send a follow-up message to verify that the invitations were received and to ensure that faculty were able to successfully log in to the survey.
- Ensure that the sending e-mail address, ccfsse@ccsse.org, will not be blocked by the college's e-mail server or spam-blocking software.
- Assure faculty members that they cannot be individually identified in data files sent back to the college from CCSSE. The Center for Community College Student Engagement is committed to protecting the anonymity of all CCFSSE respondents, and it is Center policy not to provide colleges with information that could result in an individual faculty member being identified.
